Clinic Assistant (bilingual)
The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Clinic Assistant position. Please note: this role requires an applicant to be bilingual (English/Spanish). This position reports to the Director of Programs & HIV Services and is a Full Time, Non-Exempt role with a starting hourly rate of $25.16 to $27.04.
The schedule is Monday and Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Tuesday-Thursday 11:00am-8:00pm.
Primary Objective:
The Clinic Assistant performs duties related to the successful provision of primary health care and HIV services to patients; assists with reception duties during clinic hours; monitors patient flow from front desk to back office for patients accessing HIV Health Services; assists with CE quality assurance activities; acts as liaison between Clinica Esperanza staff and Adult Medicine staff; assists the Shotwell Clinic Manager with the efficient flow of primary health care services with a high level of customer service; and serves as a back-up Medical Assistant to the HIV Clinic.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Administrative
- Coordinate scheduling of clinical staff with Shotwell Clinic Manager, Director of Patient Services, and Director of Programs and HIV Services
- In Clinica Esperanza, monitor clinic flow to optimize team productivity and insure positive staff and patience experience
- Generate, monitor, and produce team productivity reports and access data on a routine basis
- Assist in the supervision of front desk staff, and Medical Assistant
- Oversee operations of assigned reception areas by always ensuring sufficient staff coverage in coordination with the Shotwell Clinic Manager
- Resolve health insurance and payment concerns for patients, and refer to the appropriate department
- Assist in addressing informal patient complaints, implement service recovery plan, assist patients in filing grievances, as requested, and field formal complaints to the Director of Patient Services
- Monitors the condition of clinic equipment and physical facility; notifies the Shotwell Clinic Manager of any clinical and office equipment repair as necessary. Orders new equipment, as needed
- Participate in quality improvement efforts and initiatives in the assigned clinic in coordination with the Clinical Lead, Shotwell Clinic Manager, and Director of Programs and HIV Services
Front Office/Back Office Functions
- Provide backup support to front desk when required (checking eligibility, demographic and insurance information, and other front office functions)
- Provide backup support to back office when required, including take and record vital signs, document patient history as relevant and patients’ chief complaint in the Electronic Health Record, correctly and efficiently
- Prepare and administer point-of-care tests, such as HbA1c and glucose
- Prepare rooms for procedures as necessary, with all required equipment and supplies.
- Sterilize equipment using the autoclave and clean the autoclave as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA degree preferred; AA and a combination of relevant experience may be considered.
- MA Certification required.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a Clinical setting, FQHC experience preferred
- Attention to detail, especially in data management
- Reception experience preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite of applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to work professionally and ethically within multi-cultural settings, including ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data, and communications.
- Sensitivity to HIV/AIDS and LGBTQIA/Homelessness/Immigration and mental health and substance use issues.
- As a condition of employment, all candidates are required to meet specific immunization standards. Documentation of current immunizations, including Varicella, TDAP, COVID-19, MMR, and Hepatitis B, as well as TB test results valid within the last two (2) years must be submitted before the start date.
