The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco.  The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Janitor On-Call position at Mission Neighborhood Resource Center. This position reports to the Drop-In Services Manager and is a On-Call, Non-Exempt role with an hourly rate of $20.89.

On-call/as-needed employees who decline or are not available for three (3) or more work assignments and/or do not work at least once during a 6-month period are subject to separation from their on-call/as-needed position.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the janitorial work of the entire building, including drop in area, patio, administrative area and medical clinic.  Perform janitorial work as needed during the day to insure compliance with the facilities’ health and safety provisions.
  • Maintain floors and stairs in a clean, safe condition.  Lobbies and hallways cleaned as needed, but no less than twice daily.
  • Clean bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities as needed, but no less than twice daily.  Responsible for maintaining clients’ access to hygiene resources including accessible paper towels, toilet paper, soap dispensers, and sinks and toilets in working order.
  • Clean and monitor for debris in the entrance area, pathways and sidewalks adjacent to the building and immediate surrounding areas at least twice daily.
  • Keep trash storage and disposal areas inside and outside the building clean and free of vermin.
  • Maintain medical clinic area, medical exam rooms in clean and functional condition.
  • Perform inspection and routine maintenance of equipment of the entire building, as requested. 
  • Wash A/C Filters every 2 weeks.
  • Order, receive and distribute cleaning and other maintenance supplies. Maintain list of chemicals.
  • Perform “moving” tasks (i.e. moving supply boxes, accommodating boxes in storage, furniture {tables, chairs}, etc.) as required.
  • Maintain building’s appearance by removing graffiti, and performing light patching and touch up painting as requested.

Position Qualifications Requirements:
Education:  High School Diploma preferred.
Experience:  Two years of experience working as building janitor or maintenance worker preferred.  Experience in carpentry, plumbing, repairs, painting preferred.
Skills and abilities:  Must be able to communicate well and prioritize building needs in conjunction with supervisor.
Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel preferred.
Confidential and Sensitive Information:  Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with patient records and personal information.

Physical  Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit approximately 10% of the time, walk and stand 90% of the time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to type or handle, feel, and operate objects. The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, and handle heavy equipment. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to speak and listen. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
